Ravens runner makes college commitment — Ridgeview senior Albert Hesse, a regular at the Class 5A boys cross-country and track and field state championships in recent years, has committed to run and compete in cross-country skiing at NCAA Division II Western State Colorado. Hesse qualified for the 5A cross-country state meet three times during his high school career, and he recorded his best overall finish, 10th place, in 2016. In track, Hesse placed seventh in the 3,000-meter run as a sophomore and last year was fourth in the 3,000 and fifth in the 1,500. In cross-country skiing, Hesse finished fourth in the combined standings of the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association state meet this past winter.
COVOA seeking commissioner — The Central Oregon Volleyball Officials Association is accepting applications for the position of COVOA commissioner. Applicants must be knowledgeable about volleyball and possess computer, organizational and leadership skills. The commissioner, who will serve for three years and be compensated by area high schools and association membership fees, will be charged with assigning officials to matches, attending athletic directors and association meetings and assessing skill levels of officials.
