A local program that offers free health and development assessments has received a $94,000 grant from the Ford Family Foundation that will help connect rural families with services they need.

Healthy Beginnings has provided Central Oregon families with accessible, free health and developmental assessments to children from birth to age 5. The program also provides referrals for community agencies, follow-up services, information and support.

The grant will help strengthen rural outreach to help connect families with resources within their own community.

“Having Rural Advocates allows us to honor the diverse culture that Central Oregon has, and empowers members of the community to take care of our youngest citizens,” said Diane Murray-Fleck, Healthy Beginnings executive director. “The Ford Family Foundation has had a long standing commitment to rural communities, and that aligns perfectly with Healthy Beginnings’ mission that when we invest in children we are really investing a strong future.”
