Uriah Heep to play Tower Theatre

Uriah Heep may not be the household name its hard-rocking British contemporaries Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath are, but it probably deserves to be.

Formed in the late ’60s out of the ashes of Spice, Uriah Heep made its own contributions to the style that would come to be known as heavy metal, highlighted by soaring guitar riffs, five-part vocal harmonies and keyboardist/songwriter Ken Hensley’s distorted organ attack. After the band’s commercial fortunes waned in the late ’70s, culminating in the implosion of the band around 1981, guitarist and founder Mick Box pulled together a new lineup that remained stable from 1986 until the 2007 departure of longtime drummer Lee Kerslake due to health issues.

The band released its 24th studio album, “Outsider,” in 2014, and a follow-up is expected later this year. Get ’eavy (and ’umble) with Heep at the Tower Theatre on Tuesday.

Uriah Heep: 7 p.m. Tuesday; $45, $49.50, $56.50 or $62 plus theater preservation fee; Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St., Bend; towertheatre.org, redlightpro.com or 541-317-0700.
