Pot shop buffer zones — The Eugene City Council is considering whether to establish a minimum distance between marijuana shops, with a potential ordinance requiring a buffer zone of at least 1,000 feet for new marijuana retailers. The idea stems from concern that a high concentration of pot shops will thwart the city’s effort to revitalize downtown. As of last week, state regulators have granted a total of 50 licenses to retail pot shops in Eugene. Most are located within 1,000 feet of another shop.

Inquiry into Business Oregon — Gov. Kate Brown is bringing in an outside investigator to look into allegations the state’s economic development agency, Business Oregon, has created a hostile work environment for women and older employees. The allegations — contained in a letter forwarded to Brown earlier this month by Dana Sullivan, a Portland labor attorney representing the Oregon Business Development Department’s employees — also include accusations of program and budgetary abuses.
