Bend outlasts Summit in battle of offenses

Erin Conrad and Maya Elliff both had four hits and four RBIs, leading Bend High to a 17-15 Intermountain Conference softball win over Summit on Friday.
Jasmine Nocerino and Olivia Dority both led the host Lava Bears (2-4 IMC, 5-10-1 overall) with three hits. Eliff had a triple and Nocerino a double, the only two extra-base hits among the Bears’ 22 hits.
Summit (2-7, 2-12), which trailed most of the way but briefly led 12-11 after a five-run fifth inning, was led by Tiana Waller, who was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Molly Wasserman, who had two hits and four RBIs. Grace Dealy, Gianna Viola and Giuliana Alberghetti all had two hits and drove in runs for the Storm.

Gladstone 8, Crook County 1: PRINEVILLE — The Cowgirls committed five errors and were held to four hits in a Tri-Valley Conference loss. Ashley Owens paced Crook County (5-1 TVC, 10-5 overall) with two hits, and Abby Dalton and Brooke Dalton each had a hit. Emma Ackley drove in the Cowgirls’ lone run.
Corbett 1, Madras 0: CORBETT — Lizzie Steuart held Corbett to four hits and walked two batters, but the Cardinals broke through with a run bottom of the sixth inning to escape with a Tri-Valley Conference win. Steuart also doubled to account for one of the three hits for Madras (4-3 TVC, 8-6 overall).
Sweet Home 22-17, Sisters 0-0: SWEET HOME — The Outlaws (1-7 Sky-Em, 2-13 overall) were swept in a Sky-Em League doubleheader.
Baseball
Mountain View 8, Ridgeview 4: REDMOND — Owen Aylward had three doubles and two RBIs, and the Cougars used a four-run fifth inning to grab a 6-4 lead en route to an Intermountain Conference win. Carson Anderson had two hits and an RBI for Mountain View (3-4 IMC, 3-13 overall), Noah Murillo doubled and drove in a run, and Shandon Malikowski had two hits. Hudson Harbolt led Ridgeview (2-7, 3-14) with two hits and an RBI, Nate Restivo and Evan Hockett each doubled and drove in a run, and Cortland Stephens had a double and a single.
Madras 16, Corbett 0: MADRAS — The White Buffaloes bombarded Corbett with 10 runs in the second inning en route to 14 hits for the game in a Tri-Valley Conference victory. Lewis Fine recorded three hits and five RBIs for Madras (4-3 TVC, 9-6 overall), and Kanim Smith batted in four runs. Jared Holliday held the Cardinals to two hits in five innings.
Gladstone 2, Crook County 1: GLADSTONE — The Cowboys (4-2 TVC, 8-5 overall) fell in Tri-Valley Conference play against league-leading and Class 4A No. 6-ranked Gladstone.
Sweet Home 8-6, Sisters 7-7: SISTERS — Austin Morss totaled five hits over two games to help the Outlaws salvage a split in a Sky-Em League doubleheader. Morss finished with three hits and two RBIs for Sisters in the first game, but the Outlaws could not climb out of an 8-3 hole. In the second game, Morss had two hits and Taylor Fendall drove in two runs as Sisters (5-3 Sky-Em, 11-6 overall) used a two-run fourth inning to tie the game before scoring once in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
Culver 10-6, Dufur 0-0: DUFUR — With a pair of shutouts, the Bulldogs (3-0 SD6, 7-4 overall) remained unbeaten in Class 2A/1A Special District 6 play.
Girls tennis
Storm, Lava Bears in gold bracket: ROSEBURG — Summit and Bend each recorded two wins on the first day of the Roseburg Invitational to advance to Saturday’s gold bracket at Umpqua Valley Tennis Center. Mountain View split its two matches and will be slotted in the silver bracket. For the Storm, who defeated Sprague 8-0 and Sheldon 4-4 (9-8 in sets won), Emmaline Fievet and Whitney Walden each posted straight-set victories in singles play, while the Summit doubles teams of Sophie Wecker and Sabryna Anderson and Emma Nguyen and Steele Jasa each went 2-0. Bend edged South Medford 5-3 and snuck by Junction City 4-4 (80-75 in games won) to advance to the gold bracket. Kyla Collier won both her matches at No. 1 singles for the Lava Bears, and Bend’s Maycie Mitsch was a part of two winning doubles teams, with Ashley Placek against Junction City and with Liv Slocum against South Medford. Mountain View recorded a win over Churchill, by way of a 9-8 advantage in sets, as Kelsey Leighton and Moruya Harvey won in No. 1 doubles while Eliza Jacobson and Felicia Hall won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. The Cougars fell 8-0 against Roseburg.
Boys tennis
Summit inches closer to title: EUGENE — With an 8-0 victory over North Bend and a 7-1 win over Sheldon, the Storm advanced to the semifinals of the Bigfoot Invitational at Eugene Swim & Tennis Club. Against North Bend, Summit singles players David Feldman and Ryan Abbott both won in straight sets without dropping a game, as did the Storm doubles team of Will Villano and Cole Capatani. Dylan Warren and Joshua Marine teamed up for a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 1 doubles against Sheldon, and Summit’s Matthew Merzbach and Miles Van der Zwiep also won in doubles.
Girls lacrosse
Summit 16, Liberty 8: HILLSBORO — Nicole Gallivan had four goals, Erin McIntyre added three, and the Storm cruised to a nonconference win. Julia Stites, Ashlyn Radatti and Caroline Stuermer each scored twice for Summit (9-1), while Maggie Hawkins, Spencer Hurley and Healy Bledsoe added one goal apiece. The Storm’s Bridget Lockrem finished with 12 saves in goal.
Boys lacrosse
Hood River Valley 18, Summit 11: HOOD RIVER — Despite five goals by Justin Radatti, the Storm dropped their fifth straight with a nonconference road loss. Jason Ward had two goals and an assist for Summit (1-7), Jackson West had a goal and two assists, and Cian Marderos finished with six saves in goal.
