Looking ahead to Central Oregon community sports

Six weeks: Bend Beer Chase, a 50-mile, 12-leg relay race starting at Worthy Brewing in east Bend on June 2. Transitions will be held at a number of Central Oregon breweries and the race concludes with a full-team “keg leg” in downtown Bend. Registration costs $300 for individuals and partners, $550 for teams of three to four and $825 for teams of five to six runners. Individuals may also sign up for the keg leg alone for $40. Two months: Pacific Crest Endurance Sports Festival, which will include 20 multisport and running races in Sunriver and the surrounding area June 22-24. Entry fees vary widely depending on the event, but registration details are available at http://whyracingevents.com/event/989.
Three months: High Cascades 100, a 100-mile mountain bike race that will start at the Athletic Club of Bend on July 21. The course circles around Mount Bachelor and several of the Cascade lakes before returning to Bend. Entry costs $260. More details and online registration are available at www.highcascades100.com.
Four months: Beat Beethoven 5K Fun Run/Walk, which will be held at COCC campus track on August 25. Many runners attempt to finish the 5K during the playing of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, which is approximately 33 minutes long. The race supports the Central Oregon Symphony.
