July 3, 1950 – March 7, 2018

Martin “Marty” Cranswick died at home, surrounded by family on March 7, 2018, at the age of 67. He died from pancreatic cancer.

Marty is survived by his wife, Roberta Cranswick; his children, Matt Cranswick, Meredith Birdwell and Marisa Cranswick; his father, Hank Cranswick; and his brothers, Bob Cranswick and Mike Cranswick. He is preceded in death by his mother, Selma Smith Lawson.

Marty was born on July 3, 1950, in Oregon City, Oregon, to Hank Cranswick and Selma Smith. He graduated from Lake Oswego High School in 1968 and later pursued a career as an electrician until his retirement in 2005. He married Roberta Pothetes in the fall of 1975 and in their 42 year marriage, raised 3 children, who in turn, provided him with the joy of 4 beautiful grandchildren.

With a focus on always improving himself and setting an example for his children, he achieved his bachelor of science degree from Eastern Oregon University in 1995. Marty was an avid reader, sharing book recommendations with his family and friends. He was also a Master Naturalist volunteer and could often be found fishing at local lakes and rivers. He was known by his online handle, Angler of Repose, on iFish.

Marty will be remembered most for his wit, including groan-inducing dad jokes, his resourcefulness and strong work ethic and his ear-to-ear smile that radiated sincerity and authenticity.
