By the hundreds they came — men and women in a wide range of ages and from near and far — to take part in the fourth annual Bend Marathon and Half. The event was staged Sunday, starting and finishing in downtown Bend.
The featured race, the 26.2-mile marathon, was won by Bend’s own Max King. The 38-year-old was first overall in 2 hours, 32 minutes, 23 seconds. Runner-up was Sam Settelmeyer (2:36:18), and third was Nick Scalfone (2:45.14). The winner in the women’s division was Jen Edwards (3:21:16), followed by Valerie Ells (3:22:26) and Dani Reese (3:27:37).
Based on posted race results, 251 entries finished the marathon — a number dwarfed by the day’s most popular race, the half marathon, in which 1,011 participants finished.
Orin Schumacher, 45 and of Eugene, was the overall winner in the half marathon with a time of 1:15.17. Second was Josh Seekatz (1:16:44), and third was Riley Worthington (1:19:09). First place in the half marathon women’s division went to Becca Tollefson (1:28:43), second was Danielle Melton (1:29:19), and third was Karyn Woods (1:30:28).
An additional 335 entries finished the event’s 10-kilometer race, and 255 completed the 5K.
