MADRAS — Cheydon Herkshan hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Madras a thrilling 7-6 Tri-Valley Conference softball victory Monday at Madras High School.

Starting pitcher Jiana Smith Francis threw 7 2⁄3 innings for the White Buffaloes, striking out nine batters and walking none. She also hit an RBI double.

Arysta Pineda led Madras (5-3 TVC, 9-6 overall) at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double. Delaney Vibbert was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Lizzie Steuart hit a two-run double for the Buffaloes.

The game was tied 5-5 after the seven regulation innings, and Corbett took a 6-5 lead in the top of the eighth. To open the home half of the eighth for Madras, Genesis Quiroz reached on an error, then Hannah Holliday singled to score Quiroz for a 6-6 tie. Herkshan later stepped to the plate to hit the game-winning single, which scored Jalaney Suppah.

Mountain View 20, Summit 1: Mountain View combined nine hits with nine Summit errors and some rally-fueling walks to overwhelm Summit in the first of four meetings this week between the two crosstown Intermountain Conference foes. Brenna Popham and Madison Newman both went 2-for-3 and Kayla Berg hit a two-run homer for the visiting Cougars (2-5 IMC, 3-9 overall), who took control with a nine-run second inning and won in five innings via the 10-run rule. Berg was the winning pitcher with a six-hitter that included eight strikeouts and no walks. The Storm (2-8, 2-13) were led by Hailey Nelson, who was 3-for-3 and scored Summit’s only run on a fifth-inning double by Amanda Mellor.

Glide 13, La Pine 0: GLIDE — Angela Cardonia had the lone hit for La Pine in the Mountain Valley Conference loss to Glide, the No. 2-ranked team in Class 3A. Josey Hawkins took the loss at pitcher for the Hawks (2-5 MVC, 5-9 overall). The Wildcats scored five runs in the fourth inning to break the game open.

Gladstone 13, Crook County 3: GLADSTONE — Kalyn Martinez led the Cowgirls with two of the team’s five hits in the Tri-Valley Conference loss in six innings. Crook County (4-2 TVC, 10-6 overall) committed five errors, had nine passed balls and gave up seven walks.

Baseball

La Pine 12, Glide 7: GLIDE — Class 3A No. 2-ranked La Pine overcame an early 4-3 deficit and survived five errors to stay unbeaten in Mountain Valley Conference play with the road win. Wyatt DeForest led the Hawks (7-0 MVC, 14-1 overall), going 3-for-5 with a solo home run and three RBIs. Adam Plant was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Angelo Roes was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Jake Farnsworth hit a two-run double as La Pine won its sixth in a row.

Gladstone 7, Crook County 4: PRINEVILLE — Brody Connell was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Cowboys in the Tri-Valley Conference loss. Devin Bishop and Carson Smith each had one RBI for Crook County (4-3 TVC, 8-6 overall). Starting pitcher Kyle Knudtson had six strikeouts against the Gladiators, the No. 6 team in Class 4A.

Madras 13, Corbett 3: CORBETT — Jared Holliday got the win on the mound for the Buffaloes and was 2-for-3 at the plate in the Tri-Valley Conference game. Cameron Rodriguez was 4-for-5 with three RBIs to lead Madras (5-3 TVC, 10-6 overall). Tyler Lockey and Lewis Fine each added two hits and two RBIs for the Buffaloes.

Girls lacrosse

Bend United 19, Redmond 3: Redmond scored the first goal of the game, but host Bend United roared back for a convincing Central Oregon League win at Mountain View High. Joren Fettig scored six goals and had seven draw controls and six ground balls to lead Bend, which also got three goals apiece from Mackenzie Lashley and Kaylene Oates. Amber Marcy scored two goals and Mary Theobald, Sahalie Levine, Athena Peterson and Mia Morey each scored one for the winners. Theobald had four draw controls and seven ground balls and Oates had six ground balls for Bend United (2-1 league, 10-2 overall). Sadie Benz scored two goals for Redmond (0-4, 0-6).

Summit 14, Sisters 4: Summit raced to a 9-1 halftime lead and cruised to a Central Oregon League home victory. Erin McIntyre and Julia Stites scored three goals apiece for the Storm (3-0 league, 11-1 overall), and goalkeeper Bridget Lockrem made 23 saves. Spencer Hurley and Nicole Gallivan scored two goals each, and Natalie Stevens and Caroline Stuermer also had goals for the Storm. Sisters dropped to 2-3 in league (7-3 overall).

Boys lacrosse

Mountain View 13, Sisters 4: The Cougars improved to 4-1 overall with the win over the Outlaws (3-5).
