Ridgeview gets back on track with win

BEAVERTON — A two-game losing streak came to a close for Ridgeview on Tuesday. But not without some drama.

The Ravens’ Dalen Buckley-Noonan broke up Aloha’s six-goal scoring streak with a much-needed insurance goal in the second half to give the visitors a two-goal edge. That was enough cushion for Ridgeview, which escaped with an 8-7 boys lacrosse win over Aloha.

Ridgeview (6-4 overall), which entered the game ranked slightly behind the Warriors, led 7-0 at halftime, courtesy of three goals and an assist by Brantley Biondi and a goal and assist each from Will Nelson and Mike Ashley.

Yet Aloha (6-3) struck back with a 6-0 run in the second half to trim its deficit to one score.

A late goal by the Warriors brought the margin back within a goal, though it came after Buckley-Noonan’s score all but secured Ridgeview’s fourth win in six games.

“A win like this means a lot going into the playoffs or Cascade Cup,” Ridgeview coach Steve Ashley said, noting that he expected the Warriors to be one of the more challenging teams Ridgeview would face in the back half of its schedule.

With five games left in their regular season, the Ravens are looking to qualify for the Oregon High School Lacrosse Association state playoffs.

The top two teams in each conference receive automatic bids, while the remainder of the 24-team field will be filled with the highest-ranked teams as calculated by the LAXPower Ratings.

The Cascade Cup will include the 16 highest-ranked teams that did not qualify for the championship bracket.
