Beavers ground Pilots — Steven Kwan tied the Oregon State single-game record with five hits, including a home run and two triples, leading the Beavers to a 9-2 nonconference win over Portland in front of 4,800 fans Tuesday night at Hillsboro’s Ron Tonkin Field. Kwan led off the game with a homer, part of a 5-for-6, three-run, two-RBI performance for the junior center fielder. Adley Rutschman was 3-for-3 for Oregon State, which roughed up six Pilots pitchers for 17 hits while drawing nine walks. Four OSU pitchers combined to allow seven hits, one of them a single by Collin Runge, a junior from Redmond’s Ridgeview High School. While UP fell to 15-24, the Beavers reached the 30-win mark with their sixth straight victory and take a 30-6 record into a three-game Pac-12 series against Arizona State starting Friday night at Goss Stadium in Corvallis.
