Summit pitchers team up to no-hit Mountain View

Summit’s Dylan Ruhl and Nick Mastroni combined for eight strikeouts and no-hit Mountain View in the Storm’s 15-2 Intermountain Conference baseball victory Tuesday at Mountain View.
Summit (9-2 IMC, 9-8 overall) plated six runs in the top of the third inning to grab a 9-0 lead and coasted to a five-inning win via the 10-run rule.
Hayden Love was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Storm, and Logan Peterson went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Sam Waterman and Hank Tobias each doubled and drove in two runs for Summit, while Wolf Meckem and Drew Steelhammer each contributed a hit and two RBIs.
Tanner Wild and Ryan Martini both drove in a run for the host Cougars (3-5, 3-14), who scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning on back-to-back bases-loaded walks.

Bend 12, Redmond 3: REDMOND — Cole Frey homered twice, doubled once and drove in four runs to lead the Class 5A No. 9-ranked Lava Bears to an Intermountain Conference win. Kaleb Karpstein was 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for Bend (5-2 IMC, 9-6 overall), Steve Talamantes went 3-for-4, and Cooper Simmonds had a home run and two RBIs. Austin Carter led Redmond (2-5, 6-10) with a triple and an RBI. Colt Folston had a hit and drove in a run, and Cooper Browning and Chase Uhrich each singled for the Panthers.
Crook County 9, Molalla 5: MOLALLA — The Cowboys scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to grab a 7-2 lead en route to a Tri-Valley Conference win to snap a three-game skid. Payton Faust and Kyle Knudtson each had two hits and two RBIs for Crook County (5-3 TVC, 9-6 overall), and Carson Smith contributed two hits. Jacob Kasberger added a hit and two RBIs for the Cowboys, and Heath Pickhardt had a hit and drove in a run.
Sisters 2, Sutherlin 0: SUTHERLIN — Zach Morgan struck out 12 and allowed just three hits in a complete game to lead the Outlaws to a Sky-Em League victory. Morgan also had a hit and an RBI for Sisters (6-3 Sky-Em, 12-6 overall), and Austin Morss contributed three hits. The Outlaws’ Taylor Fendall had a hit, and Christopher Luz drove in a run.
Culver 8, Heppner 2: HEPPNER — The Bulldogs (4-0 SD6, 8-4 overall) remained unbeaten in Class 2A/1A Special District 6 play.
Softball
Mountain View 12, Summit 2: The second of Kayla Berg’s two home runs was a three-run blast that ended the Intermountain Conference game in the bottom of the fifth inning via the 10-run rule, giving Mountain View back-to-back wins for the first time this season. Berg, who was 3-for-3 and drove in six runs, also pitched a four-hitter. Alina Demeyer had three of the Cougars’ 13 hits, and Emily Antoni, Skylar Garcia and Madison Newman had two hits apiece for Mountain View (3-5 IMC, 4-9 overall). The visiting Storm (2-9, 2-14) were led by Hailey Nelson, who was 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Softball
Redmond 8, Bend 6: REDMOND — Jinya Glenn was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Payton Rogerson was 2-for-3 for the Panthers (5-2 IMC, 7-8 overall), who scratched out eight runs on six hits. Emily Smith hit a two-run home run for the visiting Lava Bears (2-5, 5-11-1) that temporarily tied the game in the fourth inning.
Sutherlin 24, Sisters 5: SISTERS — The Outlaws (1-8 Sky-Em, 2-14 overall) fell in a Sky-Em League game.
Boys lacrosse
Mountain View 15, South Salem 1: SALEM — Senior leaders helped the Cougars (5-1) make up for a slow start en route to a nonconference win.
