Late rally lifts Bend past Redmond

After Redmond scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to get even at 9-9, Bend answered with six runs in the home half and held on for a wild 15-10 Intermountain Conference softball win Wednesday at Bend High.

Jessie Wiest was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Olivia Dority was 4-for-4 for the Lava Bears (3-5 IMC, 6-11-1 overall). Also for Bend, McKenzie Bradley and Emily Smith each had a double and a single, and the two combined for five RBIs.

The Lava Bears led 5-0 after one inning and 9-2 after five before Redmond charged back.

For the visiting Panthers (5-3, 7-9), Kiki Fierstos had a solo home run and a double, and Brooklyn Thompson was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Also for Redmond, Savannah Mills and Scout DeMain had two hits each.

Mountain View 11, Summit 4: Kayla Berg hit a first-inning solo home run that got the visiting Cougars on their way to a third straight Intermountain Conference win. Berg also pitched a complete game to earn the victory, allowing seven hits while striking out seven. Alina Demeyer and Brenna Popham knocked in two runs apiece for Mountain View (4-5 IMC, 5-9 overall), and Demeyer and Emily Antoni had two hits each. Hailey Nelson was 3-for-4 to lead Summit (2-10, 2-15).

Crook County 5, Madras 3: MADRAS — Crook County took control with a four-run fifth inning and notched a Tri-Valley Conference road win. Brooke Dalton struck out eight in a six-hitter for the Cowgirls, who were led at the plate by Caitlyn Elliott with a double, a single and two RBIs. Mekynzie Wells also drove in two runs for Crook County (5-2 TVC, 11-6 overall). Jalaney Suppah was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the White Buffaloes (5-4, 9-7). Niyallee Cochran hit a run-scoring double and also threw out a Crook County runner at the plate from center field, a defensive highlight for the Buffs in a game in which they committed seven errors.

La Pine 12, Creswell 5: LA PINE — Cheyenne Saul had two hits, scored three runs and had two RBIs, and La Pine rode a six-run first inning to the Mountain Valley Conference win. Evie Toruno drove in four runs and SueAnn Marsh had two hits and an RBI for the Hawks (3-5 MVC, 6-9 overall), who won for the third time in four games. Josey Hawkins was the complete-game winning pitcher, striking out seven.

Baseball

Summit 6, Mountain View 4: Sam Waterman had two doubles and three RBIs as the Storm rallied for an Intermountain Conference win. Summit (10-2 IMC, 10-8 overall) scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead before holding on for its eighth win in nine games. Wolf Meckem doubled and singled for the Storm, Hayden Love had a double and an RBI, and Dylan Ruhl singled and drove in a run. Noah Murillo led Mountain View (3-6, 3-15) with two hits and an RBI. Ryan Martini doubled, and B.B. Logan and Jayson Kinyon each had a single.

Bend 12, Redmond 3: The Lava Bears scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning and added five in the fifth to race to an Intermountain Conference win. Tysen Scott struck out five in a complete game and added three hits for Class 5A No. 9-ranked Bend (6-2 IMC, 10-6 overall), Marshall Davis had four hits and three RBIs, and Caden Mathisen drove in two runs. Andrew Mckague led Redmond (2-6, 6-11) with three hits, and Henry Chambers had an RBI.

Ridgeview 7-7, Cascade 5-9: REDMOND — Kade Nyman fanned 10 in 6 2⁄3 innings to help the Ravens to a win, but Ridgeview dropped the second game of a nonconference doubleheader despite seven strikeouts over four innings by Garrett Martin. In the opener, Nate Restivo had two hits and three RBIs for the Ravens, and Logan Carson added two hits. Evan Hockett had two hits and two RBIs for Ridgeview (4-15) in the second game.

Madras 6, Crook County 4: PRINEVILLE — Kanim Smith had three hits and also struck out six in 5 1⁄3 innings to lead the White Buffaloes to a Tri-Valley Conference victory. Tyler Lockey pitched the last 1 2⁄3 innings with four strikeouts and added two hits and two RBIs for Madras (6-3 TVC, 11-6 overall), which scored two runs in the top of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie. The Buffs’ Liam White finished with two hits. Heath Pickhardt struck out six in a complete game for Crook County (5-4, 9-7).

La Pine 12, Creswell 2: LA PINE — Angelo Roes went 3-for-4 and fanned six in four innings to help Class 3A No. 2-ranked La Pine to a Mountain Valley Conference win. Alex Farnsworth was 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs for the Hawks (8-0 MVC, 15-1 overall), Jake Farnsworth was 4-for-4 with two doubles, and Adam Plant went 3-for-4 with an RBI. La Pine’s Eddie Price had two hits and an RBI and struck out five in two innings.

Track and field

Bend boys, girls dominate in dual against Redmond: Maya Hopwood won the 100 and 200 and anchored the winning 400 relay to help the Bend girls claim a 104-36 win over Redmond. Bend’s Taylor Petz was first in the 100 hurdles in a personal-record 16.07 seconds and finished second in the pole vault. The Bend boys also beat Redmond, 103-42, as Garrett Bishop and Trevor Wilber each set PRs with wins in the 200 and 400, respectively. The Lava Bears’ Raymond Blasquez won both the 110 hurdles and the 100. The Panthers filled the top three spots in the boys 3,000 (Sam Eldridge, Chase Anspach and Garrett Greene), and Aaron Park led a 2-3-4 Redmond finish in the 1,500. Rory Eldridge won the girls 800 for the Panthers, while Ava Kitchin took first in the discus and the high jump.

Crook County boys, girls take first: PRINEVILLE — The Crook County boys recorded wins in 14 of 17 events to finish with 317 points, outpacing Gladstone with 197.5 points and Corbett with 79.5. Victor Ramirez won both the 200 and the 400 for the Panthers, while Miles Chaney (800), Cade Catterson (1,500) and Tyler Lawson (3,000) each recorded victories. Caleb Parrot won both the shot put and discus for Crook County. The Cowgirls won only one event on the track — the 4×400 relay — but still came out ahead with 253 points to Gladstone’s 180 and Corbett’s 101. Kenna Woodward won the shot put and the discus for the Crook County girls, who posted 253 points to defeat Gladstone (180 points) and Corbett (101). Gracie Kasberger won the long jump and the high jump for the Cowgirls.

Hawks finish near top at MVC meet: PLEASANT HILL — Daniel Underwood won the shot put and was second in the discus to help the La Pine boys finish second as a team with 37.5 points. Pleasant Hill topped the four-team standings with 78.83 points. The Hawks’ Luis Diaz was second in the 300 hurdles and third in both the pole vault and the long jump, while Wyatt Oldham (triple jump) and Tyler Sechler (high jump) both placed second. The La Pine girls were third as a team with 36 points as Jordynn Slater won the javelin, discus and shot put. Olivia Flack took second in the 800 with a PR 2:45.11. Santiam Christian won with 64 points.

Bulldogs, Grizzlies shine: With Skyla Newton winning the 400 in a PR 62.95 seconds and taking first in the 300 hurdles, the Gilchrist girls recorded 32 points to finish third as a team at the five-team Summit JV meet. Pauline Egger was third in the high jump for the Grizzlies. Summit JV won with 99.5 points. Culver, which was fourth with 24 points, was led by Catylynn Duff’s wins in the shot put and discus. The Bulldogs’ Emma Knepp (3,000) and Mikayla Haessler (javelin) each finished second. Kash Michael won the high jump with a personal-best 5-11 for the Culver boys, who were third with 27.5 points. Caden Engel was second in both the high jump and the 100 for the Bulldogs. Keny Spurlock won the shot put with a PR 42-8½ for Gilchrist, which was fifth with eight points. Summit JV topped the standings with 109 points.
