Mountain View hangs on to beat Ridgeview

The state will become quite familiar with Jasmine Martin after her strong performance Wednesday afternoon.

The sophomore won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 3 inches that ranked third in Oregon, regardless of classification. She also set a personal record of 35-2½, which ranks fifth in Class 5A, in a triple jump win, and she was first in the 100-meter hurdles to help the Mountain View girls claim a 69-63 dual track and field win over visiting Ridgeview.

Mountain View completed the team sweep as the boys, led by Luke Schulz’s personal-record day, defeated the Ravens 92-40.

Cassidy Hughes was first in the girls shot put and the discus and placed second in the javelin for the Cougars, and Ella Mikalson tied for first in the high jump and tied for second in the pole vault.

Ridgeview’s Rylee Troutman won the javelin with a PR of 123-0 and tied with teammate Olivia Snyder for first in the high jump. The Ravens’ Sarah Tebbs won the 300 hurdles in a PR 55.23 seconds.

Schulz put up the second-best mark in 5A in a javelin win with a throw of 171-2, and he also placed third in both the shot and the discus. Reed Sehorn won the discus with a PR 152-6 and was first in the shot.

For the Ridgeview boys, Micah Cupp won the 200 in 22.82 seconds, which ranks first among Intermountain Conference sprinters, while Trevor McBride (100), Albert Hesse (800) and Mikey Potter (300 hurdles) also recorded victories.
