Portland baby sitter gets 18 months — A 22-year-old Portland baby sitter has pleaded guilty to assaulting and mistreating a 10-month boy he was watching. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office says Sean Middleton pleaded guilty Friday in Multnomah County Circuit Court. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison for criminal mistreatment. He also received a 14-month concurrent sentence for assault. Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Chuck Mickley, who prosecuted the case, said in a statement that Middleton was in a position of trust when he caused the injuries. He says detectives learned that Middleton hurt the baby because he was frustrated with the child’s crying and having to change the baby’s diaper. The baby had numerous bruises on his body, a burn and other injuries.

Parties settle suit over pot processing explosion — Attorneys say the lawsuit filed by a contractor who was badly burned after an explosion and fire at an Oregon marijuana processor has been settled. Jacob Magley filed an $8.9 million suit against Jason Oei and William West who leased the Astoria building for growing marijuana and manufacturing butane hash oil. Magley’s attorney Jonah Flynn says the parties have reached a confidential settlement. Magley claimed he was working in the basement of the building when butane gas ignited causing a flash fire in 2016. He claimed the two were using an open heat source to vaporize concentrated marijuana while making hash oil in an open-ended system. Oei and West were convicted last year of felony assault and misdemeanor reckless endangerment. Each received three years of probation.
