Baseball
Bend Bucks to hold tryouts — The Bend Bucks summer league team will hold tryouts May 6 and May 20 at Vince Genna Stadium. The Bucks, a developmental team for the Bend Elks of the summer collegiate West Coast League, are open to high school players age 16 and older as well as NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA players with at least one year of college eligibility remaining. Tryouts will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both days. The 2018 Bucks will play a 32-game schedule, from June 9 to Aug. 2. Players interested in trying out should contact head coach James Cordes at jamesscordes10@gmail.com or 909-855-8391 to get a player informational sheet ahead of the tryout dates.

Bend event to honor U.S. Ski Team — The Oregon Nordic Ski Foundation will host “An Evening with Champions,” an event honoring members of the U.S. Cross Country Ski Team, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon on May 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will include presentations from Team USA athletes and coaches as well as a catered dinner. Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for ages 10-18 and free for children 9 and younger. Proceeds benefit the U.S. Cross Country Ski Team. Roughriders score narrow win — Trailing 17-0, Bend Rugby Club stormed back with five tries for a 33-17 lead, then held on for a 33-31 victory over the Diablo Old Gaels of Northern California on Saturday in San Francisco. Levi Penter led the Roughriders with four tries, Matt Gillette had one try, and Ryan Brown kicked four conversions. As winner of the Pacific Northwest Rugby Union championship and Division III winner of the North Pacific Geographic Union, Bend Rugby Club (15-3) will play May 19-20 in the Western Club Championships in Fort Worth, Texas.

Sunnyside to host “A Night with Linsey Corbin” — Five-time Ironman champion Linsey Corbin will discuss her sport and career at Sunnyside Sports on Newport Avenue in Bend from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
