June 11, 1942 –April 3, 2018

Linda Joanne McKinney of Redmond, much loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, in Portland. She was seventy-five.

Linda was born June 11, 1942, in Sacramento, CA, to Michael Robert Woodward and Wanda “June” Woodward. She divided her time growing up between living with her grandparents on a cattle ranch in Nevada and her mother in San Francisco. The time she spent on her grandparents’ ranch instilled a love for ranching that remained for her entire life. She attended high school in Vale, where she met and married Marvin McKinney, her partner in life.

During the early years of her marriage, Linda stayed home with her children. When Marvin returned to ranching, he often referred to Linda as the best cowhand on the ranch and while Marvin may have been the foreman, she ran the show. After running a large ranch in Eastern Oregon for thirty-four years, Linda and Marvin “retired” to a small cattle ranch in Culver, where they happily lived for the next thirteen years. After Marvin’s passing, she moved to Redmond. Finally in true retirement, she enjoyed interacting with her friends around the world on the GoldToken social gaming website. On GoldToken, not only was she an avid gamer, she also hosted games and tournaments.

Family was the most precious thing in Linda’s life. She also had a love for all living things, especially horses, cattle, cats, birds, plants and even spiders. She enjoyed learning, reading science fiction, riding ATV motorcycles on the ranch and spending time on GoldToken.

Linda is survived by her sons, Steve McKinney (wife, Jo Marie) of West Richland, WA; and David McKinney (wife, Tami) of Redmond; daughter, Sheila Hite (husband, Brad) of Corvallis; sister, Paula Washington of Redmond. Other survivors include her grandson, Bryan; and five granddaughters, Janet, Shalene, Danielle, Madyson and Hannah; and three great-grandchildren Odette, Wyatt and Sawyer. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Marvin.

A small family remembrance of Linda’s life will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 2:00 pm PST in Redmond. For further details, please contact the McKinney family at (971) 344-3197.
