HARRISBURG — They had to come from behind to do it, but the La Pine Hawks nailed down the outright Mountain Valley Conference baseball championship Wednesday with a 7-4 victory over Harrisburg.

Jake Farnsworth was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, and the senior left-hander struck out the side in order in the seventh inning to secure the win — and La Pine’s second straight league title.

The Class 3A No. 2-ranked Hawks trailed 4-1 after three innings but rallied for three runs in the sixth to tie the score and three more in the seventh to take the lead. Farnsworth came on in relief in the bottom of the seventh to close the door as La Pine finished the MVC season with a record of 11-1.

Eddie Price was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Angelo Roes had two hits and scored two runs for the Hawks (18-2 overall).

La Pine plays a nonconference doubleheader at Sisters on Friday, then awaits a home conference playoff game on May 18.
