A Bend man accused of attempting to stab his father to death has pleaded guilty except for insanity to two charges.
Ian Anthony King, 20, was arrested in September after his father called 911 to report his son had stabbed him in the back. King didn’t initially comply with orders by responding officials to come out of the house.
His father received “serious but non-life threatening injuries,” according to Bend Fire Department.
King was charged with five counts, including attempted murder. Following a mental health evaluation, his attorney, Patrick Flaherty, was able to assert the defense of insanity, and the charge of attempted murder was dropped.
Deschutes County Circuit Court Judge Wells Ashby signed an order dated May 17 stating that King serve two consecutive 5-year sentences at the Oregon State Hospital in Salem.
“Because of the defendant’s qualifying mental disorder, he presents a substantial danger to others, requiring commitment to a state mental hospital,” Ashby wrote.
