2 children die in Wallowa rafting accident — Two young brothers died in a rafting accident over the weekend on the Grande Ronde River in Wallowa County. Oregon State Police said Monday the boys were rafting with their father when the raft hit a rock at Martins Misery Rapids and ejected the boys. The father jumped in but couldn’t find them in the swift-moving river. Other rafting groups found the boys, but they could not be revived. More information was not immediately available, including the ages of the boys or whether they were wearing life vests. The accident happened in Troy, a small community in Northeast Oregon near the border with Washington.
Motorcyclist found in wilderness — A Florida motorcyclist who was last seen May 28 in Oregon has been found injured on a dirt road in the Umpqua National Forest. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday a search effort for Matthew Chapin began Friday. He was found Sunday near Clearwater Falls, north of Crater Lake. Chapin, 31, set off on the road trip in April on his Kawasaki motorcycle. He was supposed to travel to Crater Lake and then meet family members in Portland, but he fell out of contact with his relatives May 27. Chapin was airlifted to a hospital in Springfield on Sunday with unspecified injuries.
