Local cowboy wins Sisters all-around

SISTERS — When the final ride was in the books Sunday afternoon, Shane Erickson was a cinch to win all-around honors at the 78th annual Sisters Rodeo.

The Terrebonne cowboy was the only contestant to win money in two events, earning cash in both team roping and tie-down roping in the three-day, four-performance Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association competition.

Erickson, 37, claimed a two-event total of $1,487.40 — $1,134.90 for a seventh/eighth-place finish in team roping with Brent Falon, of Yakima, Washington, and $352.50 for a seventh-place finish in tie-down roping. Erickson also was the all-around Sisters Rodeo winner in 2012.

Event winners included Ryle Smith, of Oakdale, California, in tie-down roping; Trenton Montero, of Winnemucca, Nevada, in bareback riding; Josh Garner, of Live Oak, California, in steer wrestling; Max Kuttler, of Billings, Montana, and Brandon Bates, of Sun City, California, in team roping; Ryder Wright, of Milford, Utah, in saddle bronc riding; and Teri Bangart, of Olympia, Washington, in barrel racing. Tye Wallace, of Collbran, Colorado; Riker Carter, of Stone, Idaho; and Dalan Duncan, of Ballard, Utah, tied for first place in the bull riding.

Wright’s score of 88 in the saddle bronc tied a Sisters Rodeo Grounds arena record.
