Looking ahead to Central Oregon community sports

Six weeks: The High Cascades 100, a 100-mile cycling race that starts in Bend, loops around several of the Cascade Lakes and then returns to the Athletic Club of Bend. The race starts at 5:30 a.m. on July 21. Entry costs $260. To sign up, visit www.highcascades100.com.

Two months: The MAC Dash sprint triathlon, a 500-yard pool swim, 12-mile bike ride and 3-mile run at the Madras Aquatic Center on Aug. 11. There will also be free “Middle MAC Dash” and “Mini MAC Dash” races for children up to age 14. Entry costs $5 for individuals and $35 for those competing as a pair or team. Three months: The Under Armour Mountain Running Series will be at Mount Bachelor on Sept. 15. The event includes 5K, 10K, 18K and 50K mountain runs. Four months: The Storm King Trail Half and 10K, held at Seventh Mountain Resort in Bend on Oct. 13. Formerly known as Super Dave’s Down & Dirty Half, the race is one of the final trail runs of the year. Five months: Run the Rock, 50-mile and 50K races held Nov. 10 and a half marathon on Nov. 11. All races will be held within Smith Rock State Park and Crooked River National Grasslands. Entry costs $60 for the half marathon, $105 for the 50K and $120 for the 50-mile race. Prices will increase on Aug. 1. More information is available at www.alpinerunning.co/run-the-rock-50.
