- Alaska Airlines was flying direct from Redmond Airport to Portland, but stopped in November.
Alaska Airlines will upgrade an entire planeload of passengers at Redmond Airport on July 6, when it brings in a Boeing 737-800 for the first time.
The airport announced Tuesday that Alaska will introduce the larger 147-seat jet on a flight to Seattle, departing at 2:35 p.m.
Alaska typically uses turboprops out of Redmond. Its Bombardier Q400s are configured with 76 coach seats, according to the airline’s website.
The 737 will have first-class, premium-class and coach seats, according to a press statement from Redmond Airport. Serviced by Horizon Air, the aircraft will be added to Alaska’s network from Redmond to Seattle and Portland.
Alaska has seen competition on the Redmond-Seattle route since last summer, when Delta Air Lines launched two daily flights.
The 737-800 will be the largest aircraft to service Redmond Airport in its history, according to the airport.
