Stanley was born May 4, 1933 to Melvin and Helen Peterson in Velva, ND. He lived his younger life in Granville, ND with his mother, two brothers, and two sisters. His father passed away when he was two-years old.
As a teenager, the family moved to Minot, ND, where he graduated from high school at St. Leo’s Catholic School. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army and served during the Korean conflict, receiving an honorable discharge in 1955. He returned to Minot, ND, and worked for the Great Northern Railway for 10 years. Then he went to work with his brother on power line construction until 1964. Then he worked for MDU in Bismarck, ND as a lineman until moving to Snohomish, WA to work for Bonneville Power Administration. He moved to Redmond, OR as line foreman and retired after 30 years, then worked as a line inspector until 2011.
He loved to go to Yuma, AZ each winter with his many friends. He loved to care for his cattle, horses, and his dog, Riley. He also loved to help his good friend Dale Landrus on his ranch with his cattle.
He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, St. Thomas Catholic Church, Eagle, Moose, and American Legion.
Stanley married Donna Marie Miller in Donnybrook, ND on June 1, 1957, by her uncle, Father David Miller at St. Anthony Catholic Church. God blessed them with three children, Barbara, Curtis, and Pamela. Stanley is survived by his wife, Donna; their three children, one granddaughter, Michelle (Jason Aldrich); step-grandson, Jon Simpson; three great-grandchildren, Lacey, Braiden, and Cameron; and a step-great-granddaughter, Kristina Walter.
Stanley was proceeded in death by his parents, Melvin and Helen; two sisters, Grace and Meredith; two brothers, James and Marvin; son, Curtis age 17; brothers-in-law, John Miller, John Weninger and Leo Schumaker; and three nephews, James, Virgil and Kevin Peterson.
Services will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church, June 16, 2018. Rosary at 9:30 AM, followed by Mass at 10:00 AM. Following Mass – Burial at Redmond Memorial Cemetery. A luncheon to follow burial at parish hall. Everyone is invited.
Thank you to all his doctors, nurses, Partners In Care (Hospice), Redmond Memorial Chapel, Father Unger, and many family and friends for all of the thoughts and prayers. Stanley will be missed by many.
