Fire crews are making significant progress containing the Graham Fire, which was started by a lightning strike and has burned about 2,055 acres of brush, timber and grass south of the Metolius River arm of Lake Billy Chinook west of Culver.

The wildfire was considered 50 percent contained as of Saturday, according to the Oregon Department of Forestry.

However, the fire destroyed two residential structures and five outbuildings. No other structures have been burned.

Evacuation orders remain in effect for the Three Rivers subdivision.

A roadblock has been set up near the Chinook Village Store in Culver to restrict access to all vehicles except emergency personnel.

Fire crews completed a successful burnout operation Friday, setting fires and letting fuels burn between the wildfire and the containment lines. Mop-up operations started Saturday.

About 375 firefighters are assigned to the fire and are using 32 firefighting vehicles.

Crews have set up fire camp at the Sisters Rodeo grounds.

Many of the crews were sent to the wildfire when Gov. Kate Brown invoked the Conflagration Act, which authorizes the State Fire Marshal to relocate personnel and equipment to assist local agencies when life and property are at risk. The extra crews are providing 24-hour protection for structures threatened by the fire.

The wildfire is burning on private lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry and Lake Chinook Fire and Rescue, as well as the Bureau of Land Management land.
