PORTLAND — For the second straight night Saturday, Portland pitchers appeared nearly untouchable to the Bend Elks.
Three Pickles pitchers combined for a three-hitter, striking out 16 Elks along the way to a 4-1 West Coast League win at Portland’s Walker Stadium.
On Friday night, Bend batters struck out 19 times and managed just one hit in a 16-0 loss to the Pickles.
In Saturday’s second game of a three-game series, the Elks (7-19) scored an unearned run in the third inning for a 1-0 lead, but Portland got the run back in the home half. Bend starter Daniel Naughton was lifted with two outs in the sixth inning; he gave up four runs, all earned, on four hits while striking out six and walking one.
The last batter Naughton faced, Joey Cooper, launched a two-run homer that put the Pickles up 4-1.
