Locals among Roundup champs

PRINEVILLE — Champions were crowned Saturday night at the conclusion of the final performance of the 72nd Crooked River Roundup, which wrapped up its three-day run at the Crook County Fairgrounds.

Among the top performers was a local cowboy, Terrebonne’s Austin Foss, who took the bareback riding competition with a score of 79 points for winnings of $1,898 out of the total rodeo payoff of more than $96,000. A Central Oregon cowgirl, Culver’s Tanya Jones, led the barrel racing field with a time of 17.43 seconds for winnings of $2,006.

Claiming the top prizes in other events were Blake Knowles, of Heppner, in steer wrestling; Jake Stanley, of Hermiston, and Bucky Campbell, of Benton City, Washington, in team roping; Tyrell J. Smith, of Sand Coulee, Montana, in saddle bronc riding; Caleb McMillan, of Soap Lake, Washington, in tie-down roping; Doug Bean, of La Grande, in steer roping; and Dakota Beck, of Moses Lake, Washington, in bull riding.

McMillan was the rodeo’s all-around cowboy, with total winnings of $4,149 in bull riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling and steer roping.
