A motorcyclist who was killed on SW Century Drive Monday hit a deer before being struck by a pickup truck that was traveling behind him, according to information released by Bend Police Tuesday.
John Alan Boop, 59, of Everett, Washington, died after the collision that closed a portion of Century Drive for 41⁄2 hours Monday afternoon. He was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Nikole Ashlee Cox, 21, of La Pine.
Cox has cooperated with investigators, according to a police news release. A decision on whether to charge Cox has not yet been made.
The department is still investigating the crash, which took place at 1:55 p.m. on SW Century Drive near Mammoth Drive. Boop was traveling east on a 2005 Harley-Davidson when a deer ran in front of him. He was unable to stop before hitting the deer and falling into the road, police stated in the release.
The department was asked to delay releasing Boop’s identity so his wife had time to notify his daughters, Bend Police spokesman Lt. Clint Burleigh said. Police also released Cox’s identity Tuesday.
