Veterinarian Jacob Crawford launched Crawfest — the regionally focused music festival that bears his name — at his property in Powell Butte in 2008 and has watched it grow from two bands in that first year to 30-plus since 2012. In the last year, he acquired property in Mitchell and decided to give Crawfest even more room to expand.

“I bought a store and a gas station and an old bar there, and a house,” he said. “After the eclipse (last summer), everybody saw the potential because they had a lot of people come through for the eclipse. They asked me if I would do (Crawfest) in town, and I’m like, heck yeah.”

The festival will take over Main Street in the town Friday and Saturday with vendors and two stages hosting the usual mix of punk, metal, country, rock, blues, hip-hop and more: Stage Y is located across from the post office at the entrance to downtown Mitchell, while the Tiger Town Stage will be at Tiger Town Brewing Company. Best of all, the festival is free this year. Camping will be available in Mitchell and on public lands outside town (visit mitchelloregon.us or call the Mitchell City Park at 541-462-3121).
