Woman killed trying to cross U.S. Highway 97

A woman was struck and killed Tuesday night while trying to cross U.S. Highway 97.

Shortly before 11 p.m., Bend police officers responded to the intersection of Powers Road and S. Highway 97 following the report of an accident involving a pedestrian. They were unable to save the life of a woman who had been hit by a 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck, according to a Bend Police press release. The southbound lanes were closed for about four hours while officials investigated the accident.

The police have identified neither the driver nor the pedestrian involved. They also did not say whether the driver of the truck had been cited. However, they noted the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing.
