SEWARD, Alaska — Max King, 38 and of Bend, finished second at the 2018 Mount Marathon Race, a 5-kilometer race in Alaska from downtown Seward to the top of Mount Marathon and back held each July 4.
David Norris of Anchorage, Alaska, won the race in 42 minutes, 13 seconds, less than a minute slower than the course record he set in 2016. King finished just 20 seconds behind in 42:33.
It was King’s first time running the Mount Marathon Race, billed as the “toughest 5K on the planet” due to the nearly 3,000-foot climb up Mount Marathon.
