Sheriff: Drugs found inside inmate’s stomach — Authorities say they found two plastic bags of heroin and methamphetamine in a jail inmate’s abdomen. Multiple news outlets report 32-year-old Rashel Sutliff has been charged with unlawful delivery of heroin, unlawful possession of heroin, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, and three counts of supplying contraband. The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office says an investigation began after someone reported last month that at least one inmate was using heroin. The sheriff’s office says Sutliff was suspected of supplying the drugs and that a body scanner at a nearby jail showed a foreign substance in her stomach. The sheriff’s office says hospital staff removed the drugs. It wasn’t known if Sutliff had obtained an attorney. She was in jail initially for failing to appear in court.

Officers searching the area found a knife, and learned a male suspect was at a nearby tent. Burley says the man had injuries that required a trip to the hospital. The investigation remains active.

Bar shooting — The family of a black man who was fatally shot by Portland State University campus police is demanding the university immediately disarm its campus officers. Jason Erik Washington was shot on June 29 while trying to break up a fight. Oregon Public Broadcasting says Washington’s brother on Friday compared the incident to other high-profile shootings of black men. Andre Washington called the incidents an “affliction in America.” The 45-year-old Washington was trying to break up a fist fight outside a bar by the Portland State campus. A bystander who filmed the incident has said a gun fell out of the Navy veteran’s pocket during the scuffle. Witness Keyaira Smith says Washington was trying to retrieve it when he was shot. Washington had a valid license to carry a concealed weapon.

Fatal fire — Officials say a woman died and three homes burned in a blaze that may have been started by fireworks in Springfield, Oregon. Fire crews responded shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday. The fire was under control a little more than an hour later. Authorities identified the woman as 74-year-old Clara Baller. Springfield police Lt. Scott McKee said the fire is believed to have started in the garage attached to Baller’s home. Smoke quickly overwhelmed the whole house, and the blaze spread to a neighboring duplex. Although officials suspect fireworks, the investigation into the cause of the fire remains active.
