LONGVIEW, Wash. — In the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday night, the Bend Elks lost the lead. In the 10th, they lost the game.

Ryan Kim’s one-out single in the home half of the 10th inning drove home the decisive run as Cowlitz claimed a 3-2 West Coast League baseball win over the Elks at the Black Bears’ Story Field.

It was the second straight loss for Bend in the three-game series, which concludes Sunday. The Elks had opened the second half of the WCL season with three consecutive wins before being shut out 2-0 by Cowlitz on Friday.

With Saturday’s game tied 1-1 through eight innings, Bend went on top in the ninth when Alex Pallios hit a one-out, bases-loaded single that scored Collin Runge. But the Black Bears rallied in the bottom half for a run against Bradley Gonzales, the third of three Elks pitchers, then won it on Kim’s hit in the 10th.

Bend starter Mikey Hooper was sharp in six innings of work, allowing five hits and one run (unearned) while striking out five and walking one. Sam Boone followed with two innings of no-hit, scoreless relief.
