VICTORIA, British Columbia — After winning three straight to open the second half of the season, Bend lost its fifth game in a row 6-3 to the Victoria HarbourCats on Wednesday night at Royal Athletic Park.
Mississippi State’s Hunter Vansau was a thorn in the side of the Elks (3-5 second half, 10-25 overall). He went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a homer to power a majority of the HarbourCats’ offense. Nick Plaia had the only other RBI for Victoria.
Late arrival from the University of Washington Nick Roberts hit his first home run of the summer for the Elks. Collin Runge went 1-for-1 with two walks and stole a base.
Mason Shaw picked up the win for the HarbourCats (2-3, 16-16) after five shutout innings. He allowed just two hits, walked three and struck out six.
Khalil Rivera took the loss after getting touched up for five runs on 10 hits.
