USOC names new chief executive — The U.S. Olympic Committee on Thursday named a new chief executive to succeed Scott Blackmun, who stepped down under pressure in February as the organization faced escalating pressure in the aftermath of the Nassar gymnastics sex abuse case. The group’s new leader is Sarah Hirshland, an executive with the U.S. Golf Association. Blackmun and the USOC encountered heavy criticism after athletes and lawmakers said the organization did not intervene despite learning about possible sexual misconduct by Dr. Larry Nassar in the summer of 2015, a year before the accusations became public. Hirshland was the USGA’s chief commercial officer. Before that she was an executive at Wasserman Media Group, the talent agency and sports-marketing company whose founder, Casey Wasserman, led the bid for Los Angeles to host the Summer Olympics and is chairman of the group that will run the 2028 Games.

Police had previously responded to McCoy’s home — Police reports show officers responded to several nonviolent disputes at the home where Buffalo Bills star LeSean McCoy was attempting to evict his former girlfriend before an unidentified man bloodied the 34-year-old woman in a home invasion. Police responded early Tuesday to a report of a violent attack at a home in Milton, Georgia, just outside Atlanta. A lawyer for Delicia Cordon says Cordon was hurt when a man tried to take bracelets from her wrist and hit her in the face with a gun. McCoy had twice initiated eviction proceedings against Cordon. Reports released Thursday said officers responded to two prior domestic disputes at the home. No violence was reported either time. Police also responded last month when Cordon called from Virginia to stop people from removing items from the house.
HOF to mail Owens his Gold Jacket — Terrell Owens spurned the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and now Canton is returning the favor. Owens — who last month announced he will not be attending the August enshrinement ceremony in Ohio after earning his nod for the class of 2018 — will not be introduced at the Gold Jacket ceremony on Friday night, Aug. 3, nor will he be announced the following night at the induction ceremony, according to the Talk of Fame Network. Owens joins Ray Lewis, Randy Moss, Brian Urlacher, Brian Dawkins, Bobby Beathard, Jerry Kramer and Robert Brazile as a member of this year’s class. Earlier this month, Owens revealed on Twitter that he would be making his Hall of Fame speech Saturday afternoon at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, his alma mater. The speech starts at 3:17 p.m., which precedes the ceremony in Canton.
