The Worthy Brewing Summer Criterium Series is underway for 2018, and the action was fast and fierce Wednesday in the second installment of the six-week series, all staged at Pacific Crest Middle School in west Bend. Above, Meg Lane, left, and a group of riders round a corner in the women’s Cat 4/5 race. At left, riders in the men’s Cat 1/2/3 race negotiate a turn. Four more races remain in the series, starting this Wednesday and including July 25, Aug. 1 and Aug. 5. (The final race, on a Sunday, was added after the cancellation of a previous race.) The series awards points to the top 10 finishers in each race, and the top three finishers overall in each category will receive prizes. Warm-ups start at 4:20 p.m. Juniors race for 15 minutes starting at 4:45 p.m., women race for 30 minutes starting at 5:10 p.m., category 3/4/5 men race for 30 minutes starting at 5:50 p.m., and category 1/2/3 men race for 40 minutes starting at 6:30 p.m. Racers can preregister for individual races until 10 p.m. the day before each race for $15. The series is an Oregon Bicycle Racing Association event. For more information, visit www.tfgracing.com/bend-criterium-series.html.
