A man was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver Friday night while trying to cross 27th Street in east Bend.

Kelly Sondgeroth, a 53-year-old transient, was struck shortly before 10 p.m. while trying to cross 27th Street south of the crosswalk at U.S. Highway 20, according to a Bend Police Department press release. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. Charles Bend.

Though the driver who hit Sondgeroth fled, debris from a vehicle, a Volkswagen, remained at the scene. Police also were guided by witnesses. At about 11 p.m., police located 18-year-old Bend resident Edwin Dominguez in the downtown Bend parking garage and arrested him on charges that include assault, driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run and minor in possession.

Dominguez was taken to the Deschutes County Jail.
