• Crestview Cable Communication changed its name to BendBroadband. TDS Broadband Service LLC, a subsidiary of Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. operated by TDS Telecom, bought Crestview in November 2017. Since the acquisition, TDS invested more than $20 million in network upgrades to service more than 21,000 homes in La Pine, Madras, Prineville, Metolius, Crooked River Ranch and Culver. Crestview was founded in Madras in 1955.

• Bend Cultural Tourism Commission awarded $205,000 to Bend organizations to leverage marketing resources to attract more tourists during shoulder seasons and winter months. The recipients are: BendFilm Inc. — $33,750; High Desert Museum — 33,750; ScaleHouse Contemporary Creative Center — $20,500; Tower Theatre Foundation — $17,750; Bend Art Center — $15,000; Lay It Out Events — $15,000; Crow’s Feet Commons — $14,250; World Muse — $14,750; Deschutes County Historical Society — $9,500; Sunriver Music Festival — $8,250. The commission awarded two catalyst grant awards, supporting cultural initiatives in the development phase: Oregon State University-Cascades Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing — $12,500 and OUT Central Oregon — $10,000.

• The Environmental Center will present its sixth Sustainability Awards, honoring businesses, organizations and individuals leading the way to a sustainable future in Central Oregon.
