Firefighters and aircraft attacked a fire burning about 8 miles southeast of Bend near Bessie Butte on Sunday.

The Bessie Butte Fire had burned about 12 acres by 5:30 p.m. Sunday, and firefighters had a dozer line around roughly 40 percent of the fire with a hose line around the remainder, according to Lisa Clark, spokeswoman for the Bureau of Land Management. “Things are looking pretty good out there,” Clark said. “All forward progress was stopped.”

The fire was burning in brush, grass and ponderosa pines and was being fought by seven fire engines, one crew, a dozer, water tender, two single-engine air tankers and a heavy air tanker. Forest Road 18 was closed east of the Knott Road intersection and Forest Road 1815, which enters the forest off Arnold Market Road, was closed to allow fire crews safe access.
