SALEM — Redmond is one win away from playing for the championship at the Oregon Little League State Major (age 12 and under) baseball tournament.

Redmond, the District 5 champion, opened play in the state tournament Saturday at Holland Youth Park with a 23-1 win over Southeast Portland. An 8-0 win Sunday over Baker City advanced Redmond to a game at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Murrayhill of Beaverton, which also is undefeated through two rounds.

The winner of Tuesday’s game will advance to play in the championship round at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Redmond-Murrayhill loser will drop into the loser bracket for a 6 p.m. Wednesday elimination game against an opponent to be determined. The winner of that loser-bracket game will then advance to play in the championship round against the Redmond-Murrayhill winner on Thursday. In the double-elimination format, a second championship final, if necessary, is set for 6 p.m. Friday.

The winner of the eight-team state tourney will represent Oregon in the Northwest Regional tournament Aug. 5-11 in San Bernardino, California.
