Little Havana — Bend’s first Caribbean restaurant, the Cuban Kitchen, opened on Bend’s west side on July 3. Cristina and Chris Rojas, who moved to Bend from Miami, Florida, serve such dishes as chicken fricassee, ropa vieja (with flank steak) and a Cuban press, their version of a Cuban sandwich. Nothing is priced over $13. Cuban Kitchen replaces the Juno Japanese Sushi Garden, which closed last month after nearly five years in business. 133 SW Century Drive, Suite 204, Bend; www.cubankitchenbend.com, 541-797-6587. Open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Plant-based diets — The new Plantd Café & Marketplace offers a morning and midday menu to appeal to vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free diets. Owned by Gretchen Ulrich and Manya Williams, both holistic nutritionists and yoga instructors, it opened on July 7 to replace the former Fearless Baking Company. 1900 NE Division St., Bend; www.beplantd.com, 541-668-7699. Open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
