The Decemberists will be your girl at Les Schwab

By now, fans know what to expect from Portland indie-folk-rock institution The Decemberists — literate-yet-whimsical storytelling delivered in frontman Colin Meloy’s nasal twang, matched to equally whimsical, massive performances that encourage audience participation. But on “I’ll Be Your Girl,” the band’s second album since returning from a four-year hiatus in 2014, Meloy and company embrace their inner ’80s pop geeks on synth-driven songs such as lead single “Severed” and “Once in My Life” (the band has cited New Order and Roxy Music as touchstones for the record). If you weren’t down with the quintet’s hipster shtick to begin with, this probably won’t change your mind, but it’s a welcome shot of energy for this long-running group. The Decemberists will return to Les Schwab Amphitheater on Thursday, capping a busy week for the venue.

The Decemberists, with Whitney: 6:30 p.m. Thursday, doors open at 5 p.m.; $40.50 plus fees in advance, $46 at the door; Les Schwab Amphitheater, 344 SW Shevlin Hixon Drive, Bend; bendconcerts.com or 541-312-8510.
