The work of Bulletin writer Markian Hawryluk and photographer Joe Kline was recognized last month by the Society of Professional Journalists in the organization’s Northwest Excellence in Journalism contest. Both Hawryluk and Kline won multiple awards.
Hawryluk, The Bulletin’s health reporter, won two first-place awards. His work on the opioid crisis won in the Comprehensive Coverage category, and his story “The Science of Pain: It’s All in Your Head,” which appeared in Pulse magazine, topped the Health & Science Reporting category.
Kline won first place in Sports Feature Photography and second place in two other categories, Sports Action Photography and Spot News Photography.
The Northwest Excellence in Journalism contest includes work published in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska and Montana.
