Low water levels close boat ramp at Prineville Reservoir

The Powder House Cove boat ramp on Prineville Reservoir is closed to trailered boats for the rest of the year, effective Tuesday morning.

The closure is due to water levels at the reservoir, which are too low for boats to safely launch from the ramp, according to a news release from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

Kayaks, paddleboards and other small watercraft may still be launched from the ramp, and the parking lot near the boat ramp will remain open, according to the release.

Two other ramps on the reservoir — Prineville Reservoir State Park day-use area and Jasper Point day-use area — will also remain open to trailered boats. The ramp at Jasper Point closes Aug. 1, while the Prineville Reservoir ramp is expected to stay open for the rest of the year, according to the release.

The large reservoir is 59 percent full as of Tuesday morning, which is below-average for this time of year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
