Elks stymied by AppleSox at home

The Bend Elks opened up a two-game home set with the Wenatchee AppleSox with a 9-0 shutout loss in which the team registered almost as many errors (three) as hits (four).
Pitcher Daniel Naughton lasted two innings, in which he surrendered four earned runs on four hits and three walks, with just one strikeout. Elks pitchers gave up 14 hits and six walks, while fanning six. Leadoff hitter Nick Roberts and Sean Coffey each doubled for Bend.
AppleSox center fielder Evan Williams, a sophomore at the University of Oregon, smacked three singles for Wenatchee, while catcher Cory Meyer went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.
AppleSox starting pitcher Curtis Bafus went six innings, gave up four hits and struck out five. Reliever Karver Pate pitched three innings of perfect relief, striking out four.
