- Bend’s Jenavieve Lustyik was at the bottom of the pile after the Lava Bears beat Summit to win the 2017 Class 5A volleyball championship, held in Hillsboro.
Two Central Oregon athletes are among the recipients of Oregon Sports Hall of Fame college scholarships for 2018.
In a news release Tuesday announcing its Hall of Fame inductees for 2018, the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame and Museum also announced the awarding of college scholarships to six Oregon scholar-athletes. The winners of the $3,000 scholarships include recent high school graduates Jenavieve Lustyik, a volleyball standout from Bend High, and Cole Little, a baseball standout at Culver.
According to Mike Rose, induction ceremony chairman for the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, the annual scholarships are awarded based on athletic and academic considerations, as well as student need. The scholarships are made possible by contributions from the MacTarnahan Family Trust and are to be used by recipients to continue their education at Oregon colleges and universities.
The Hall of Fame will induct five new members in a presentation at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland on Sept. 25. Among the new inductees are former star Oregon State and NFL running back Steven Jackson and former Major League Baseball umpire Jim Joyce, a Portland-area resident.
