Elks not sharp in loss to Knights

CORVALLIS — Too many walks allowed (10), too many errors in the field (four), and a long night for the Bend Elks.

After ending a 14-game losing streak with a convincing win over Wenatchee on Sunday in Bend, the Elks were not the same team on the road Tuesday night at Oregon State’s Goss Stadium, where they fell 12-3 to the Corvallis Knights.

Bend, still last in the West Coast League’s South Division, took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on the strength of a run-scoring double by Alex Pallios and a bases-loaded walk to Sean Coffey. But the Knights, who are battling the Portland Pickles for the South Division lead in the closing days of the WCL season, countered with six runs in the fourth inning and rolled in the opening game of a three-game series.
