A hard landing at Bend Municipal Airport Tuesday damaged an airplane on the very same day it was delivered to the pilot, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
Bend resident Michael Herzong, 75, flew a 2018 Cub Crafter FX280 from Hood River to Bend Municipal Airport Tuesday, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. The flight, on Herzong’s first day with the plane, ended with a rough landing that collapsed a wheel strut, bringing the left wingtip and tail into contact with the runway and causing the plane to rotate in a “ground loop” before coming to a stop.
Herzong, the only person on board, was uninjured, though the Cub sustained moderate damage.
