The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is now offering a “clearly marked and well-lit” location for child custody handoffs and completing online transactions with strangers.
The Blue Line Safety Zone, as it’s called, will be located in the parking lot of the sheriff’s office building at 63333 Highway 20 in Bend. The space, marked off with blue road striping, will be video recorded 24 hours a day. Deputies won’t get involved with or directly monitor transactions, however.
Residents are advised to dial 911 if an emergency arises during a transaction, the sheriff’s office stated in a press release.
