CORVALLIS — The long ball kept Bend in the game, but the Elks could not overtake division-leading Corvallis on Wednesday night in a 6-4 West Coast League loss at Oregon State’s Goss Stadium.
Ty Holmstrom hit a solo home run in the third inning, and Brandon Leitgeb’s three-run blast in the fifth got Bend within 5-4. That was it for scoring though for the Elks, who dropped their second straight game in a three-game series with the Knights.
Corvallis entered the game with a slim half-game lead over Portland for first place in the South Division for the second half of the WCL season. Bend remains last in the five-team division entering the series finale Thursday night.
